About 9 Edges Endurance for Edale MRT
A 20 mile trail run across nine gritstone edges in the Peak District, the Nine Edges Endurance takes place on 12 September 2026, starting from Fairholmes in the Upper Derwent Valley. The event is a Fell Runners Association category BL race requiring navigational skills and local knowledge, with roughly 900 metres of height gain as participants traverse moorland and edges from Fairholmes to the Robin Hood Inn near Birchen Edge.
Runners must carry a physical map and traditional compass, with GPS navigation not permitted. The event operates on a waiting list system and is typically oversubscribed well before the closing date. Transport back to the start is provided as part of the event arrangements. FRA membership is recommended, though not required for entry.
The Nine Edges is organised as a fundraiser for Edale Mountain Rescue Team, with all organisers and marshals volunteering. Walkers and climbers also take part in the event, choosing their own routes on each of the nine edges, and dogs are permitted with walkers and climbers on lead.
