About Altra Kielder Marathon Weekend
Kielder Marathon Weekend brings trail runners of all abilities to Northumberland for a weekend of off-road racing across multiple distances. Held on 3-4 October 2026 at Kielder Castle, the event features a full marathon, half marathon, 10 km, 2.5 km and 1.5 km races, all run on the well-maintained trail around Kielder Reservoir. The course is challenging with steep inclines and undulation, though runners can combine running with walking to suit their pace.
The weekend is designed to be accessible and sociable. Water stations and isotonic energy drinks are stationed throughout the route, with marshals and clear signage at key junctions. A dedicated shuttle bus service operates between car parks and the start, and spectators can also use shuttle services to reach multiple vantage points along the course. Local refreshments and first aid are available at the start and finish, alongside sports massage and a secure bag drop.
