About Beacons Way Ultra 100km
Spanning the Brecon Beacons National Park in Powys, the Beacons Way Ultra 100km follows the official Beacons Way trail across Bannau Brycheiniog. The 100 kilometre route climbs 3178 metres over two days (24-25 July 2027), taking in Pen-y-Fan and the Carmarthen Fans among other summits. The trail-based ultramarathon carries UTMB Performance Index and ITRA points and serves as a Western States 2028 qualifying race for eligible runners.
Starting and finishing at The Red Lion in Llangynidr, the race enforces a 24-hour overall cut-off and operates six staffed checkpoints providing refreshments and hot food at indoor locations. Entrants must be aged 20 or over and demonstrate substantial ultramarathon experience: completion of a 50-mile ultramarathon and proven competence in map and compass navigation across mountain terrain are required. The event does not permit pacers or unregistered support runners.
Participants must carry mandatory kit throughout the race, including a paper map, compass, GPS tracker, headtorch with backup light, appropriate clothing layers and emergency rations. Two small dropbags are permitted at checkpoints, and optional coach transport and designated parking are available.
