Runners tackling the Beast of the Beacons will find themselves navigating varied terrain across the Brecon Beacons National Park, from forest paths and mountain trails to rocky ground, riverside crossings and exposed sections. Starting and finishing at Talybont-on-Usk, three distances are available on 17 April 2027: 10 miles, 20 miles, or 40 miles (run as two laps of the 20 mile route in reverse). The courses are marked and marshalled, with GPX files provided.
Well-stocked checkpoints cater to various dietary needs, including vegan options, serving fruit, snacks, electrolytes and drinks throughout. A mandatory kit list is enforced at registration, covering essentials like waterproof clothing, a headtorch, map or GPX device, and first aid supplies. Facilities at headquarters include toilets, catering, medical cover and parking, with accommodation nearby. The event welcomes canicross runners with dogs aged 12 months and over, though they run on a separate trophy structure. Elevation gain is published for each distance, and extended cut-off times allow competitors generous completion windows.
