About Beast Of The Blacks
The Beast of the Blacks takes runners into the Black Mountains of Wales on 6 March 2027, starting and finishing at the cricket pitch in Crickhowell, Powys. Three distances are on offer: 10 miles, 20 miles, and a 40-mile ultra that comprises a double loop with the second lap reversing the 20-mile route. The trail terrain includes forest paths, mountain tops, and river crossings, with the course fully marked and marshalled throughout.
Cut-off times apply to each distance: 5 hours for 10 miles, 8 hours for 20 miles, and 16 hours for 40 miles. Checkpoints supply food and drink including fruit, nuts, sweets, electrolytes and water, with vegan options available. A mandatory kit list is enforced at registration, covering waterproof clothing, a race pack, foil blanket and reusable cup. The event welcomes canicross runners with dogs aged 12 months or older, provided they remain on lead. Post-race, runners can access light refreshments, a recovery sauna and ice bath.
