About Beast Race
Runners looking for a serious physical challenge will find it at the Banchory Beast Race, a 10 km obstacle course at Knockburn Loch in Strachan, Aberdeenshire. The trail terrain combines formidable hill climbs with thick clay mud, deep bogs and repeated water crossings, while around 25 to 30 named obstacles test strength and agility. Challenges include heavy carries, A-frame walls, cargo nets, tubes, trenches, rope work and floating island crossings.
The event takes place on 12 September 2026 and supports Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. Finishers receive a medal, and optional performance t-shirts made from recycled plastic bottles are available. Post-race refreshments and free spectating are on offer, with a dance warm-up and street food adding to the day.
