About Bennachie Ultra Marathon
The Bennachie Ultra Marathon returns to Aberdeenshire on 10 October 2026, marking the inaugural running of this mountain ultra. Based at Chapel of Garioch Village Hall, the event takes runners on a trail route across six of the Bennachie peaks—including the ancient hillfort of Mither Tap, Oxen Craig and Millstone Hill—with over 5000 feet of total elevation gain. Competitors can choose between the full 50 km distance or the 31-mile option.
This is a serious hill running challenge governed by Scottish Hill Runners rules. All competitors must carry mandatory safety kit throughout, including waterproof cover, foil blanket, hat, gloves and whistle, and should expect kit checks before the start. A 4-hour cut-off applies at approximately 18 miles near the Visitor Centre, ahead of the major climbs. Water is provided at designated stations where marshals will refill runners' own bottles. Participants must be at least 18 years old and bring photo ID to collect their race numbers. A GPX file of the course is available for preparation.
