About Beyond Durham 55km Ultra
Beyond Durham offers a choice of two trail running distances through County Durham on 18 September 2027, starting and finishing at The Bandstand on Durham Riverside in the city centre. The longer 55 km route traces the River Wear through Durham City before following the Old Railway Line eastwards, passing through Langley Park, Lanchester, and Consett en route to the C2C route towards Stanley and Chester-le-Street before returning via the river. The shorter 25 km option heads south along the railway line towards Langley Moor and Meadowfield, passing through Croxdale Wood and Butterby Wood before rejoining the River Wear for the final stretch back to the finish.
Both routes are fully signed with marshal support. The 55 km features three feed stations and the 25 km has one, positioned to help runners sustain their effort across the terrain. The event operates with chip timing and has an overall cut-off at 6:30pm. Runners should prepare with compulsory kit including a running pack, water, food, a charged mobile phone, and a lightweight jacket.
