About Black Beacon Mountain Races
Black Beacon Mountain Races takes runners across the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains over a weekend of late October. Participants can choose between 50 km and 100 km trail routes, both starting from Broad Street Book Centre in Hay on Wye. The terrain spans waterfall country, forest trails and high ridgelines through the upland landscape.
The 50 km route finishes at Llangynidir village hall, while the 100 km option is an out-and-back traverse that crosses 44 summits between Hay on Wye and Pontneddfechan. The 100 km route is unmarked for its first half and requires GPS navigation, with compulsory kit including an emergency map or backup GPS device. Both distances feature multiple checkpoints along the way. Runners must be 18 or over. Parking is available at the main event bases, and camping is offered in Hay on Wye for Friday and Saturday nights.
