About Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon
Taking place in late August 2026, the Black Cattle Ultra Gwartheg Duon is a trail ultra across South Wales organised by Ridge Runners. Runners can choose between two distances: a 33-mile route (53 km) or a challenging 44-mile option (71 km). Both start in the Black Mountains—either from Llanthony Priory or Abergavenny—and follow the Cambrian Way southward to Cardiff, finishing near Castle Coch.
The course winds through mountains, wooded valleys and villages, presenting a demanding mountain ultra experience. The event prioritises a friendly, community atmosphere, with on-course aid stations and facilities provided throughout. Finishers receive locally crafted mementos reflecting the organisers' commitment to sustainability.
