About Breakheart Backyard Ultra
Breakheart Backyard Ultra brings the endurance race format to Gloucestershire across the Cotswold countryside. Held at Breakheart Quarry nature reserve near Dursley, the event runs from 11-12 June 2027, with Friday reserved for arrival and registration.
Runners tackle the same 4.167-mile trail loop repeatedly, with each lap featuring around 560 feet of elevation gain across mixed terrain. The race follows backyard ultra rules: competitors must complete each circuit within the hour, starting on the bell. Runners continue until only one participant can match the fastest completed lap, with remaining time available for rest and refuelling between loops.
The site provides a full support operation including plumbed toilets, hard ground camping, indoor shelter, charging points, drinking water and snacks. Timing, route marking, first aid and marshals are all in place, along with a log slice medal for finishers. A mandatory race waiver is required at registration.
