About Cadair X
Cadair X takes place on 17 October 2026 as a mountain half marathon based at My Place Properties in Tywyn, Gwynedd. The 13.1-mile route covers 1165 metres of ascent across mixed terrain: roughly 65% trail, 25% mountain path and 10% tarmac. Runners climb to the 893-metre summit of Cadair Idris, with a 90-minute summit cut-off from race start.
The course winds through Dol Idris woodland and a steep gorge before reaching the glacial lake Llyn Cau, then ascends Mynydd Moel to the summit. The descent follows rocky, technical ground onto the Pony Path, before finishing via quieter Mary Jones walk tracks and woodland beside Tal Y Llyn lake. The steepest sustained climbing occurs between 1 km and 3 km, with the most difficult underfoot terrain just after the summit. Checkpoints are positioned at 4.1 km, 7 km, 12.5 km and 16 km, offering water and some food and electrolyte provisions. Runners must carry a windproof jacket, whistle, fully charged mobile phone and suitable mountain terrain running shoes. The course is marked with arrows and a GPX file is available.
