About Cairnsmore Hill Race
This 17.5 km trail race climbs steeply through the Door of Cairnsmore before heading north along the Knee to reach the summit of Cairnsmore of Fleet. Runners then descend south west back down to the finish, with 800 metres of ascent across the route.
Held in December over classic southern Galloway terrain, the race is organised by Nicky Spinks and Galloway Mountain Rescue. It's designed for experienced fell runners aged 18 and over with navigation skills, as winter conditions are possible. Checkpoints are positioned at the Bottom of Door of Cairnsmore, the Knee of Cairnsmore, and the summit trig. Registration takes place at Muirfad Farm from 9.30am with the race starting at 11am. All profits go to Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.
