About Cat's Back Fell Race
Fell runners looking for a substantial mountain challenge will find it on the Cat's Back ridge in Herefordshire's Black Mountains. This 39 km event on 11 October 2026 takes in steep terrain through farmland and woodland before reaching the exposed ridgeline, where runners traverse open fell around Black Hill and make a diagonal ascent to the summit with its trig point. The descent follows the old red sandstone ridge itself, with rocky and technical sections adding to the difficulty.
Starting and finishing at Mountain Mayhem's base at Tybubach Farm in the Monnow Valley, the route is partially marked and marshalled by volunteers from Longtown Mountain Rescue Team, who will also benefit from a donation of race proceeds. The event runs under WFRA rules and requires full kit and appropriate fell shoes. Competitors must be aged 16 or over. The venue offers car parking, toilets, showers and refreshments.
