About Celtic Trail Races
Celtic Trail Races returns for its seventh edition in December, bringing three trail running options to South Wales. Runners can choose between half marathon, marathon and ultra distances, all starting from Gadlys North Avenue in Aberdare and finishing at Dare Valley Country Park.
The routes traverse remote terrain across Afan Forest, the Rhigos mountain range and the Coed Morgannwg Way. Expect steep climbs, long flowing descents, river crossings and narrow single-track sections, with the courses passing reservoirs, ancient woodland and wind turbines whilst offering views towards the Brecon Beacons. All three routes are fully waymarked and supported by checkpoints supplying refreshments. The half marathon has a seven-hour time limit, the marathon nine hours and the ultra ten hours. A compulsory kit list applies to all competitors.
