About Chip Chase
Fell runners looking for a properly organised challenge in the South and West Pennines will find the Chip Chase worth the trip to Saddleworth. This 10 km trail race takes place on 9 August 2026, starting from the Cross Keys Inn in Uppermill, and covers hilly terrain with 400 metres of climbing. The course is fully flagged and marshalled throughout, with one steep climb featuring prominently. An early start option is available for those wanting a more relaxed pace.
The event runs under British Orienteering rules with full UK Athletics insurance backing, and accepts entrants aged 18 and over. Teams of up to four men and four women can compete together, and the race operates a mass start system from a point a 10-minute walk from the pub. Entry is available both in advance and on the day.
