About Cumbria Way
The Cumbria Way stretches 71 miles across the Lake District, connecting Ulverston in the south to Carlisle in the north over three days of trail running. This guided journey covers significant ground each day: 27 miles through the southern fells passing Coniston Water and Tarn Hows, 20 miles across the central peaks via Stake Pass and along Derwent Water, and 26 miles through the northern terrain past Skiddaw Forest and over High Pike. With nearly 3,000 metres of elevation gain throughout, it's a substantial undertaking for runners prepared for trail terrain and sustained distance.
The event is structured as a small-group experience with shared accommodation provided between each stage and luggage transfers arranged. Runners stay in bunkhouses across the three nights, with breakfast included. Participants need to meet specified fitness criteria and be comfortable maintaining a set pace on trail surfaces. The journey begins in Ulverston, though runners are responsible for their own travel to and from the start and finish points.
