About Cumbrian Traverse
The Lake District forms the backdrop for this 50 km high-level trail route that traverses 21 fells across Westmorland and Furness. Setting out from Broughton Mills in Dunnerdale on 26 September 2026, the Cumbrian Traverse climbs approximately 3,500 m on its way to Keswick, summiting peaks including Bowfell, Great Gable, Crinkle Crags and Cat Bells among many others.
The event is professionally guided with a maximum guiding ratio of 1:6, and participants are encouraged to walk all hills and technical sections. Two refuelling stops provide food and drink along the route, whilst a support vehicle offers withdrawal assistance. Safety staff are qualified Mountain Leaders and Mountaineering Instructors, with run leaders experienced in ultramarathon running. Weather conditions may prompt route modifications. The organisers recommend prior experience comparable to completing the Welsh 3000s over two days or a similar 50 km event. Transport from Keswick to the start is provided.
