About DalesRunner 40
A 26.2-mile trail challenge through the Yorkshire Dales, the Dalesrunner 40 takes place on 4 October 2026 starting and finishing in Swaledale. The route navigates moorland tracks, hard packed footpaths, grassy pasture and short road sections, passing landmarks including Maiden Castle Iron Age Hill Fort, Whitaside Moor, the Bolton Estate and Grinton Smelt Mill. The fully marked course will be shared with a shorter option on the day.
Runners aged 16 and over can take part, with under-18s requiring adult accompaniment. A tracker and GPX trace are provided, with marshalled road crossings throughout. A cut-off point operates at Dent's Houses (approximately 7.5 miles); those unable to meet it will be redirected to the shorter course. Trail shoes are recommended for this terrain.
Post-race hot soup and a roll are included, with aid stations offering vegan and gluten free choices. Car parking and refreshments are available at The Dales Bike Centre in Reeth, the event base.
