About Darkwood Demon
Set in the Colne Valley near Huddersfield, the Darkwood Demon takes runners on a 6-mile trail race through West Yorkshire moorland and woodland. Organised by Slaithwaite Striders RC, the course climbs Slaithwaite Moor to Cupwith's summit before descending to the finish, covering canal towpaths, bridleways, boggy ground and forest paths alongside a smaller stretch of road. With 990 feet of elevation gain across terrain that is 85% trail, trail shoes are recommended for the uneven surfaces.
The race takes place on 13 September 2026, starting from Zapato Brewery at Holme Mills in Marsden, where participants pick up their bibs on the day. The course is fully waymarked and marshalled throughout. The event is open to runners aged 16 and over, with places limited to 250 participants. On-site parking and basic facilities including toilets and water are available, though there are no changing rooms, showers or baggage storage.
