About Dartmoor Volcano Race
A 10.5-mile trail race across Dartmoor's moorland, the Volcano Race reaches its 10th edition in 2026. Starting and finishing in Scorriton village, the course climbs almost 650 metres over rough tracks and technical terrain, taking in Ryder's Hill and the Red Lake Volcano. Runners navigate three river crossings, a clapper bridge, boggy sections and a demanding long uphill start before a lengthy descent to the finish.
The route is fully marked and marshalled by experienced trail runners. A mandatory kit list is in place, and the event runs under Trail Running Association guidelines with Dartmoor National Park Authority permission. The race takes place on 12 September 2026.
