About Dartmoor Winter Traverse
Two trail distances across Dartmoor's remote winter landscape await participants at the Dartmoor Winter Traverse on 20 February 2027. Runners and walkers can tackle either 30 km or 50 km of challenging off-road terrain starting from Millennium Milepost Meldon in West Devon.
The 50 km route travels through open moorland past Red Lake and the river sources of the Erme and Plym, before reaching Princetown. From there it continues through North Moor via Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor, finishing with a section along the Rattlebrook dismantled railway down to Meldon. The 30 km distance joins the route from Princetown onwards. The course is almost entirely unmarked and requires navigation via GPX files or maps. Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides are positioned along the route to assist with navigation and provide first aid support.
This is a supported challenge event rather than a competitive race, with generous cut-off times at the final checkpoint. Mandatory kit requirements apply, and optional coach transport is available to take participants from finish to start.
