About David Staff Memorial Race
Darwen's moorland provides the setting for this 6 km fell race, which starts and finishes in Sunnyhurst Woods on 15 November 2026. The circular route takes in Darwen Tower and the surrounding hills, incorporating 305 m of ascent across trail terrain. Runners begin on the main path opposite The Kiosk, leave the woods via the Lychgate car park and bandstand area, then head out across the moors before retracing their steps back through the woodland to the finish.
The race is organised as an AS category fell race and welcomes participants aged 14 and over. Registration opens on the morning of the event at The Kiosk. Entry to the David Staff Memorial Race supports Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity providing heart screening for young people to help identify potential heart defects.
