About Dragon Coastal Races
Three trail races follow the Wales Coast Path between Rhossili and Cardiff Bay across 31 July and 1 August 2027. The Dragon Coastal Races offer 100-mile, 50-mile and 50km options, each combining beaches, sand dunes, shingle, forest singletrack and parkland. Elevation gains range from approximately 831m for the 50km to over 3,000m for the 100-mile distance.
The routes wind past significant Welsh landmarks including Worm's Head, Mumbles, Margam Park, Kenfig Sands, Porthcawl, Merthyr Mawr dunes, Ogmore Castle stepping stones, Nash Point Lighthouse and Barry, finishing at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. Navigation is supported by Wales Coast Path signage, running arrows and reflective markers, alongside downloadable GPS files. Multiple checkpoints along each course provide drinks and food, with checkpoint cut-offs in place. Runners must carry compulsory kit, and transport is arranged between Cardiff Bay and various start locations.
