Participants navigate the predominantly anti-clockwise route using a Strava GPX file on their phone or watch, with a tail runner sweeping the course. The terrain is hilly and self-sufficient, so runners should bring a head torch, mobile phone with emergency contacts, and warm layers, ideally along with trail shoes.

This is a festive occasion rather than a serious race, with fancy dress encouraged and a best Christmas-themed outfit winning a dessert. Time penalties apply for those not in festive dress. A finisher's medal awaits all participants, who can exchange their race number at the bar for a drink and, if pre-ordered, food to be ready around their estimated finish time. The event is restricted to those aged 18 and over. Places are limited to 39 and car sharing is suggested due to limited parking. In severe weather, the run may be postponed to a nearby date.
