About Five Rivers Ultra
The Five Rivers Ultra is a continuous trail event across East Suffolk, following a point-to-point route that links several long distance footpaths along the Suffolk and Essex coastline. The course circumnavigates five coastal estuaries—the Stour, Orwell, Deben, Butley and Ore/Alde rivers—passing through Dedham Vale and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. More than 85 per cent of the route is soft dirt trail with a relatively flat profile, and estuary waters are visible for much of the way.
Taking place on 15 and 16 May 2027, the event offers 5 km and 5 mile distances. Regular support includes snack and water stops, indoor checkpoints with drop bags and hot food and drinks, and GPS trackers issued to all competitors. Entrants must be at least 20 years old, with longer distance participants required to demonstrate recent trail experience. A mandatory kit list is checked at registration, with random checks during the race. Time limits apply to each distance.
