Runners seeking a substantial challenge through varied woodland terrain will find the Forest of Dean Ultra Marathon suits their ambitions. This 55 km trail ultramarathon on 10 October 2026 traces a circular route through the forest, passing Symonds Yat viewpoint and following the river Wye. The course combines technical single-track sections with wider riverside paths and open country, running across ridges, fields and dense woodland.
Starting and finishing at Beechenhurst, competitors navigate using a supplied GPX file and must complete the route within 10 hours. The event includes a minimum of three aid stations staffed with water, food and electrolytes, with support available for crew members. Canicross runners can enter in their own category. Mandatory kit includes navigation technology, waterproof jacket, head torch, hydration system, survival bag, first aid supplies and a charged phone.
