About Formartine & Buchan Railway Ultra
Runners tackling the Formartine & Buchan Railway Ultra will spend their chosen time looping a scenic 4.3-mile trail section between Maud railway station and Auchnagatt village hall in Aberdeenshire. Held on 8 May 2027, the event offers both 6-hour and 12-hour options, allowing participants to push for distance across the railway line route at their own pace.
Those completing at least 26.3 miles receive a medal and goodie bag. The 12-hour race features age-category prizes for senior, veteran, vet 50 and vet 60 runners, while the 6-hour event awards places for the top three finishers. Competitors must be at least 20 years old, and marathon experience is preferred though not essential. Support crews can station themselves at either end of the course to assist runners throughout the event.
