About Glen Lyon Ultra Marathon
The Perthshire hills around Loch Lyon and Glen Lochay provide the setting for this 31 mile mountain ultra on 5 June 2027. The route is predominantly off-road trail terrain with roughly 3,500 ft of ascent and awards UTMB points. Runners begin with a loop of Loch Lyon that includes six river crossings in the opening eight miles, where drop bags can be collected. The course then climbs into Glen Lochay via high and low level sections before returning over the hill to the finish, with a short tarmac section in the middle. An alternate route may be used if river crossings are in spate following heavy rain.
Water stations and checkpoints are stationed at approximately 8, 15.5, 20, 26 and 31 miles. Runners must carry mandatory kit including a foil blanket, water container, food, a working mobile phone, a small first aid kit and a race vest. Waterproofs, warm layers and a change of clothes are recommended. No walking poles, dogs or spectators are permitted. Camping is available at Loch Lyon Dam the night before; access is via single track roads with parking at the front of the dam.
