About God's Own Back Yard Ultra Spring

The trail-based loops at God's Own Back Yard Ultra Spring take runners across mixed terrain around Hunters Greave in Leeds, mixing canal towpath, farmland, woodland and tarmac. Each 4-mile circuit must be completed within the hour to earn entry into the next round; runners who fail to make the time are recorded as DNF. The format continues until a single runner completes a loop alone and takes the title.

Taking place on 29 May 2027, the event follows the Backyard Ultra Series structure and offers a pathway to Big Dog's Backyard Ultra through the BYU Championship. A separate night route avoids the canal crossing after dark, switching to tarmac paths instead. Participants need a headtorch and spare batteries for the evening running, plus appropriate clothing for whatever the weather brings. The course is fully waymarked and marshalled, with water, fruit, sweets, camping, toilets and first aid on site. All finishers receive a bespoke Yorkshire goodie bag and T-shirt. Competitors must be at least 18 years old.
