About Goyt Valley Challenge
The Goyt Valley Challenge offers two trail routes through the Western Peak District on 3 October 2026, starting and finishing at Buxton Community School. Runners and walkers can choose between a 14.3-mile course with 2000ft of ascent or a 26.2-mile route tackling 4000ft of climbing. Both explore the moorland landscape around Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, and Fernilee Dam.
The event welcomes both runners and walkers with staggered start times, and participants must complete their chosen route by 6.00pm. Given the moorland terrain within the Peak District National Park, suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, a map, compass and whistle are advised. Refreshments including hot meals are provided at checkpoints and the finish, with options for special dietary requirements. Finishers receive a commemorative buff and certificate. A bag drop is available at the start, and parking is directed from College Road.
