About Great Glen Ultra Marathon 42
The Great Glen Ultra Marathon 42 is a 42 mile trail race following the Great Glen Way from Fort Augustus to Inverness on 3 July 2027. The route climbs approximately 6,000 ft of elevation as it traces the high route above Loch Ness toward Drumnadrochit before descending into Inverness, finishing with a lap of the 400m track at Inverness Athletics Stadium. A 15 hour cut off applies.
Run on a self-supported basis, the race provides three drop bag locations at main checkpoints around Invermoriston (10 miles), Drumnadrochit (24.5 miles) and Abrachan (32 miles). The route is fully waymarked. Runners must complete registration at Inverness Sport Centre and use the provided race bus transfer to the start. Mandatory kit includes a full size foil blanket, working mobile phone and a capacity to carry at least one litre of water, which will be spot checked during the race. The organisers recommend previous experience of regular 20 mile runs and ask participants to assess their own suitability for the distance and terrain.
