About Gwyn Matthews’ Rhondda Rollercoaster
Taking place on 15 May 2027, Gwyn Matthews' Rhondda Rollercoaster is a trail-based challenge walk through the Rhondda Valleys in South Wales. Participants can choose between 16-mile and 26.5-mile routes, both starting from Sardis House in Pontypridd and following a clockwise circuit from Trehafod. The course passes key landmarks including Mynydd y Glyn, Mynydd Dinas, Mynydd William Meyrick, The Bwlch and Ferndale, returning via Tylorstown Tip, with extensive views across the South Wales valleys and towards the Brecon Beacons to the north.
Organised by the South Wales Group of the Long Distance Walkers Association since 2011, the event is named in honour of a group member involved in its creation and welcomes walkers regardless of LDWA membership.
