About Hameldown Hammer
Hameldown's trail running courses pack serious climbing into circuits across Dartmoor moorland. The 8-mile Hameldown 7EVEN features over 450 metres of ascent, while the half-marathon HAMMER tackles more than 800 metres as it rises steeply across the Moor. Both include a double ascent of Hameldown Ridge. The ultra-distance option at 30 miles takes in much of the HAMMER route plus wider excursions across iconic moorland tors, with a maximum time limit of 8.5 hours.
All races start and finish at Widecombe-In-The-Moor, set beneath granite landscapes at the foot of the Hameldown massif. The trails themselves follow well-defined grassy and rocky tracks, sometimes muddy, with occasional sections through forestry. The 8-mile and half-marathon courses are fully marked and marshalled with first aid on course. The 30-mile ultra is partially marked with sections requiring self-navigation; GPX files and maps are available, and runners are GPS-tracked.
