About Hel n Back Trail Race 10K

A 10 km trail race starting and finishing at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh, the Hel n Back takes runners through the Argyll and Bute hills on a mix of land rover tracks, well-made trails, and short road sections. The course is structured around four climbs, with the steepest and shortest coming as the final push through the trees near the end. A brief respite between the second and third climbs offers a chance to recover before the demanding final ascent.

From the 8 km mark onwards, the route turns predominantly downhill, with the last 4 km offering a fast-flowing descent that allows runners to build speed towards the finish. Marshals support the race throughout, and fine weather brings impressive views across the surrounding landscape. Fun prizes are awarded at the finish. Free parking is available at the school, with Craigendoran railway station a five-minute walk from the start.
