About Hellhole 5 mile Trail Race
Hellhole 5 Mile Trail Race takes runners through woodland and mixed terrain around Stanley in County Durham. Organised by Derwentside A.C., the 5-mile route incorporates tarmac, gravel and woodland trails, including sections through Hellhole Wood, with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain. The race starts on the Sustrans track on 18 October 2026.
Parking is available at Shield Row Primary School on King Edward VIII Terrace, postcode DH9 0HQ. Race registration happens in the Ball Alley beer garden near the start line, with the post-race presentation taking place in the Ball Alley pub, which serves refreshments. The event is run under UK Athletics rules and licensed by the Trail Runners Association.
