About Helvellyn Sky Ultra
The Central and Eastern Lake District provides the dramatic backdrop for this 57 km mountain race based around Patterdale. Runners navigate five ridge-lines across high terrain, passing Red Tarn, Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, with expansive views toward Windermere, Ullswater and Haweswater. The route climbs 3,700 m over the course.
Classified as a high-technical skyrace, the Helvellyn Sky Ultra takes place on 17 July 2027, starting from Church Corner. The route is course-marked and supported by one fully supplied feed station, two valley support points and 11 manned checkpoints. A maximum time allowance of 14.5 hours applies. The event earns ITRA/UTMB ranking points and is overseen by a professional safety officer and mountain-qualified safety team. Runners must be at least 19 years old on race day.
