About Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay
This 36 km fell running relay takes place across the Lake District fells, with teams of eight runners tackling four legs in pairs. The course, based in the Patterdale area near Glenridding, features hard climbs and steep descents across challenging terrain that demands navigation skills and mountain experience from competitors. The event runs under a Fell Runners Association license with safety support from Cumbria Raynet.
Held annually in early October, the relay attracts around 70 teams, predominantly from the north of England, competing across Open, Ladies, Mixed and Vets categories. Entry is strictly limited and often oversubscribed, with allocation involving invitation and vetting to ensure participants have the necessary fell running experience for the demanding course conditions.
