Held at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre in Wadebridge, the Hourglass is a last-person-standing format event where competitors tackle repeated 2-mile laps on a mixed tarmac and grass course with turns throughout. The twist lies in its shrinking time limit: the first lap must be completed within 30 minutes, with each subsequent lap allowing one minute less. Runners eliminated for exceeding the time limit drop out, while those who persist can rack up ultramarathon distances—13 laps equates to marathon distance, with scope to go further.

Strategy and pacing matter as much as raw speed in this elimination-style race. Finishers in the male and female categories, plus second and third place overall, earn prizes. The event provides onsite facilities including food and beverage outlets, an indoor hall with toilets and showers, and massage services. All finishers receive a bespoke medal.
