About Islay Marathon
Held in September 2026, the Islay Marathon takes runners on a 26.2 mile point-to-point journey across the Isle of Islay from Bruichladdich to Port Ellen. The road route passes through Bridgend and Bowmore before heading south towards the island's coastline, incorporating the Low Road and an out and back section via the Three Distilleries Path to Ardbeg.
Runners have six hours to complete the course, with relay options available for teams of two or four. Transport links connect Port Ellen and Bowmore with the starting point to support participants. The marathon is held in memory of marathon runner and Royal Marine Menzies MacAffer, with proceeds benefiting local charities and community groups.
