About Lake District Ultra Challenge
Over the first weekend of June, the Lake District Ultra Challenge takes runners through the region's varied landscape across distances of 10 km, 25 km, 50 km and 100 km on trail terrain. The event is based at Chapmans in Kendal, with the full 100 km route forming a loop that passes Garburn Pass, Ambleside, a halfway point beside Lake Windermere, forests and nature reserves, and several hills.
Rest stops are positioned roughly every 12.5 km, with major stops at approximately 25 km intervals. These offer seating, toilets, medical support, baggage facilities and catering. A medical team including doctors, paramedics, first aiders, podiatrists and masseuses is stationed at rest stops and on the route. Food and drink stations provide snacks, meals at regular intervals and both hot and cold drinks, with options to suit dietary requirements.
Those tackling the full challenge over two days can use camping or hostel accommodation at base camp, which also has showers and chill areas. Route support includes GPS tracking via app, on-route scanning to log progress, and route signing. Shuttle transfers to nearby stations and parking at various finish locations are available. Finishers receive a medal, t-shirt, commemorative photo and a finishers meal.
