About Lakeland Trails Staveley
Staveley's trail running event takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Abbey Square in Over Staveley, with 5 km and 10 km routes threading through the southern Lake District fells. The fully marked and marshalled courses climb out above the Kentmere valley, passing tarns and ancient woodland before tackling Reston Scar—a steep section known locally as the Sting in the Trail. Runners encounter variable terrain including tarmac, grassy paths, stony bridleways and stiles, with panoramic views across the landscape.
The event is supported by marshals and Advanced Life Support medics stationed along the routes. Water stations serve the longer course, and runners are encouraged to bring a reusable cup. A range of on-site facilities includes food and drink stalls, live music, race commentary, professional photography and toilets. Bone conductor devices are permitted but in-ear headphones are not allowed, and dogs cannot take part in the race.
