Those drawn to fell running will find two options here: a 23-mile trail route or a more demanding 50-mile ultra, both based from Cartmel Priory CofE School in Westmorland and Furness. The courses take in the high fells and Helvellyn Ridge, with routes that touch the western shoreline of Lake Windermere and include river crossings. Checkpoints are positioned throughout the course, and runners can change shoes after the water crossings.
Taking place on 10 October 2026, Lakes in a Day offers a full day's immersion in Lake District trail running, with both the shorter and ultra distances designed to test ability and stamina in equal measure.
