About Leaden Boot Challenge
This 26-mile trail challenge takes runners and walkers across the Peak District hills around Alstonefield in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The route gains approximately 4,800 feet of ascent and descent as it traces an elliptical course through Milldale, Ilam, Bunster Hill, Grindon, Wetton Mill and numerous other landmarks before returning to the start.
Eight checkpoints are positioned at roughly four-mile intervals along the route. The six manned checkpoints offer water, squash, snacks and first aid support, with additional assistance available via mobile communications. Those who need to withdraw are transported back to the start. The event follows LDWA guidelines and welcomes both walkers and runners. Dogs are not permitted due to livestock welfare concerns.
Hot breakfast rolls are available at the start, with locally made hot food and cakes served at the finish. Participants who complete the challenge receive a certificate and cloth badge. The event supports local community projects through fundraising.
