About Lyke Wake Challenge
The Lyke Wake Challenge sends runners across 40 miles of trail in North Yorkshire on 10 July 2027. Starting near Osmotherley and finishing at Raven Hall in Ravenscar, the route follows the classic Lyke Wake fell running course without markings, requiring participants to navigate using a paper map. A handicap system levels the playing field based on previous times or self-estimated ability, with twelve hours the maximum allowed time to complete the event.
Seven checkpoints are stationed along the route, offering drinks and snacks; the halfway point at the Lion Inn provides more substantial food options. Runners must be 21 or over and must carry mandatory kit including a waterproof jacket, whistle, emergency foil blanket, map, water container and mobile phone—items are checked at registration and during the event. Finishers receive a commemorative technical t-shirt, with trophies awarded to the top finishers.
