About Machen Mountain Race
Taking place on 31 August 2026, the Machen Mountain Race is a 7 km fell race near Trethomas in Caerphilly County Borough. The course covers challenging trail terrain with approximately 365 m of ascent, featuring steep, loose and uneven ground that demands appropriate preparation and footwear.
Registration happens at Machen Welfare Ground on Tyn-Y-Waun Road, with the start and finish on Church Street near Machen Stores. Participants should be ready for off-road conditions and consider practising on similar terrain beforehand. Trail or fell shoes are recommended for the slippery underfoot conditions. The race director will assess the weather on the day and may require runners to carry a windproof jacket, or in severe conditions, windproof leggings as well. The event is open to those over 18 years old.
