About Machen Trail Races
Machen Trail Races takes place on 28 November 2026 around Machen in Caerphilly County Borough, with two trail options through South Wales woodland and moorland. Runners can choose between a 14-mile half marathon and a 26-mile marathon, both traversing varied terrain including Rudry Common, Cefn Onn Country Park and Coed Craig Ruperra, with the longer route also taking in the top of Machen itself.
The terrain mixes wooded single track, open moor, streams and ridge sections with significant climbs and descents. The half marathon is fully marked, while the marathon requires self-navigation with marshal support at key junctions. Both routes have generous cut-off times that prioritise steady progress: roughly 2.5 miles per hour for the half marathon and 3.25 miles per hour for the full distance. Compulsory kit checks are in place at registration, and medical cover and marshals are provided throughout. The event is based at Machen Welfare Ground, with parking available locally.
