About Manx Mountain Marathon and Half Marathon
Established in 1970, this fell running challenge takes competitors across unmarked terrain spanning the length of the Isle of Man. The full marathon covers just under 50 km from Ramsey in the north to Port Erin in the south, gaining 2600 m of ascent over northern fells—including Snaefell, the island's highest peak—and southern hills with coastal paths and steep climbs. The half marathon follows the second half of the route for just under 22 km and 1100 m of ascent, starting from St Johns.
Navigation is essential as most of the course follows paths and open moorland without markings. The route is a counter in the Callin Wild Manx Fell Running League, and weather conditions can be severe. Runners must carry waterproof whole-body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food and a fully charged mobile phone. GPS devices and running poles are not permitted.
The full race starts from Ramsey Market Place at 8 am on 27 March, with the half marathon starting at 1 pm from the St Johns registration area. Both finish at Bradda Glen in Port Erin.
