About MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra
Taking place on 31 July 2027, the MindOverMoors Esk Valley Way Ultra is a 36-mile trail ultramarathon following the full Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour. The route traces the River Esk through upland and valley terrain, passing through Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont before finishing beneath Whitby Abbey, with a total ascent of 4,054 metres.
The course is fully waymarked using Esk Valley signs, with GPX and Strava routes available. Navigation support includes tape in areas of potential confusion, and OpenTracking GPS tracking provides live timing and splits. Five checkpoints are spaced throughout the route, each offering toilet facilities and basic food and drinks, with an option for a non-returnable food drop bag at the midway point. First aid medical cover is provided.
Runners must be 20 or older. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hat, gloves, a 500ml fluid capacity, fully charged phone, survival bag and whistle. Coach transfer from Whitby to Castleton is available for a fee. This is the inaugural running with limited entries.
