Those looking for a winter ultra that balances challenge with thoughtful course design will find their match in this 50K trail race across the North York Moors. Starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall, the route climbs onto open moorland before descending into sheltered woodland valleys, including the wooded terrain around Falling Foss and Mallyan Spout waterfalls. The course incorporates sections of the Mulgrave Way, passes the ruins of Mulgrave Castle and offers views across the North Yorkshire coastline before the final descent through Beck Hole.
The route was specifically designed to minimise exposure during winter conditions, making use of forest trails and valley routes. Four checkpoints are positioned throughout, including one indoor checkpoint with hot food, alongside soft drinks, snacks and dietary options. Clear waymarking and an on-course tracker system support navigation. Mandatory kit requirements include waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, head torch, phone and survival bag.
